BYRNES SCHOLARS Mission
The Byrnes Scholars organization is made up of present and former recipients of The James F. Byrnes Foundation Scholarships. It is separate from, but an auxiliary to, The Foundation. The Byrnes Scholars was formed to: unify scholarship recipients, promote the ideals of “Mom” and “Pop” Byrnes, provide an opportunity for fellowship among scholars, and assist the Foundation as deemed appropriate.
Byrnes FOUNDATION Mission
The purpose of the James F. Byrnes Foundation is to assist students with the financing of a college education. In order to qualify as a candidate for a Byrnes Foundation Scholarship, however, the student must have lost either one or both parents and be a resident of South Carolina.
Scholarship Applications
The application process for 2025 is closed. Scholarship announcements will be posted to the website in early June. The application for 2026 will be available December 2025. Please check back then.

Personal Involvement

Annual Luncheon
The Byrnes Scholars Annual Awards Luncheon is held in Columbia, SC, the second Saturday of every June. The highlights of the luncheon include introducing the new Byrnes Scholars to “the family” and honoring the graduating seniors.

Super Weekend
Say “Super Weekend” and Byrnes Scholars know it is the third Friday weekend in March and it is time to head for Garden City Beach, SC, where FUN, FOOD, and FELLOWSHIP are the key ingredients for what has been described as: “fantastic,” “unforgettable” and “the best time of my life!!” by scholars.

Fall Dinners
The fall dinners provide small group settings that give the students the opportunity to get to know each other. They are usually held in September and October in Charleston, Clemson, Columbia, Conway, Greenville, and Rock Hill.
